You can tell by the pictures that only the bodice of the dresses are somewhat similar. As for someone saying she should/could sue the designer of Catherine's dress is completely wrong. There are more than enough differences that make them completely different albeit similar dresses. In order to copy but not infringe an item needs to be approximately 20% different.
And just by looking at the photo you can tell that the waistlines are different, the older one has a drop waist Catherine's is at the waist, then there's the bow, the length of the train, and it appears that Cocktailjurken 2012 the older dress was completely covered in lace which Catherine's is not. Similar bodices yes, but that's all.
Wow, it really DOES look alike! Very cool. As for her daughter, considering how many thousands of dollars women will pay to wear a look-alike Kate Middleton wedding dress on their special day, she should consider herself lucky to have a classic, vintage version of it -- for free. It's the historical significance of the dress being passed down for a generation that Cocktailjurken 2013 should matter, not whether people might think she tried copying Kate's dress, and those close to her that would be at the wedding would know the difference, and the story behind the dress. Very stupid reason to choose not to wear mom's wedding dress in the future, just because Kate wore a similar style.
PS: She probably copied the design of the dress off of Grace Kelly's original design, so who is the TRUE copycat? :)

Uh, it DOES look like Kate's. It is not exact, but it has the same general Korte Trouwjurk design and anyone out there at first glance would make the connection. You are just nit picking.
The thing is, Kate decided to wear a very basic, run-of-the-mill, common simple dress. It has extravagant lace, a longer than average train, and is very well made, but it is still very very ordinary. There are many dresses out there that looked like her's before her's was made, and this style has remained a timeless option for years and years.
So, there are hundreds of women out there thinking Kate wore their dress or their grandmother or great grandmother's dress. And they are all right. The design is common.
