Kate wedding dress recreated in just five hours

The Alexander McQueen gown worn by the new Duchess of Cambridge was one of the highlights of the royal wedding and copies are expected to be made across the world.

But the bride may have been surprised Cocktailjurken 2012 at how fast the work began.

"As soon as she was in the car, we started to identify what the lace was like and try to find as close a copy as possible," said Raul Echeverria, owner of Alterations Boutique in Marylebone.

The dress was commissioned by The Times newspaper, and will be offered to a reader in a competition. But the boutique, which Echeverria's mother Maria Blazquez founded 30 years ago, has already been asked to make more.

"We have had enquiries already regarding the dress," the owner said, but insisted: "It wasn't about making money, it was about the skills and proving that anything can be done.

The 'halo' tiara was purchased by The Duke of York (later King George VI) for his Duchess (later Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother) three weeks before he succeeded his brother as King. The tiara was presented to Princess Elizabeth (now The Queen) by her mother on the occasion of her 18th birthday.

The tiara held in place a short veil, which Middleton wore covering her face.

Citing fashion industry sources, British newspaper The Sunday Times reported Middleton would be wearing a dress designed by Sarah Burton, creative director of one of Britain's edgiest labels, Alexander McQueen, when she marries Prince William on April Sexy Cocktailjurken 29.

Middleton, 29, was reportedly attempting to keep both her wedding dress and the identity of its creator secret until the day of the royal wedding.

Whatever she wears was likely set to off a frenzy of copycat designs.

What about sorting out a drawer in the kitchen? Start on the smaller places and get some satisfaction from doing this before moving on to the big ones like garages.

To de-clutter a target area, begin by pulling everything out and dumping it somewhere you can sort it - on the bench, on the bed, on the kitchen table. Out of the resulting chaos, begin by finding the things that you know you use often - you've used it within the last six months (for more season-related things such as Christmas decorations, skis or swimming pool accessories, this use-within period should be extended to a year). Next, get rid of anything broken or out-of-date. If the item is fixable or if it is something that can be used even if it is out of date (clothes or tools), then put this somewhere to give away to charity or a resource recovery centre.

At this point, you may also discover duplicates. For example, you may buy something, believing that you don't have something when, in fact, you do and the one you own is buried at the back of the cupboard. Or you may find it easier to go down to the shops and buy a new one rather than go to the effort of hunting for the old one. Put the duplicates in the giveaway pile.

Obviously, you need to throw away rubbish. It's astonishing how often absolute junk gets stored or kept. I'm always astonishing myself and thinking "What on earth did I keep that for? It's useless!".

The biggest trap to beware of when decluttering (and the source of much clutter) is the "it might come in handy" syndrome. The golden rule here is to think what the object, whatever it is, will come in handy for. For example "I'll keep this old sheet to make polishing rags/bedding for the dog/teaching the children how to sew". If you can't think of anything, get rid of it. If you really think it's useful, take it to a charity or a recycling depot. Also watch the amount of useful stuff you keep. Yes, old ice-cream containers are good for frozen food, but how many do you need to keep? Do you really need fifty?

Have decluttering episodes regularly - this is something that always needs to be done, as humans seem to be inveterate hunter-gatherers who store stuff "just in case".

So, we just finished watching Pixar's Ratatouille last weekend, and in reflection about blogging, I'm reminded Cocktailjurken 2013 of the famous chef's split voor Prom Dresses philosophy, "Anyone can cook." Similarly and snidely in a blog,, "Anyone can have an audience." This can be wonderful, and it can be weird. When I was a girl growing up in Chicago, my dad's office at one point was right next to Bughouse Square, across from the Newberry Library, where, before it was gentrified and cleaned up, the park was home to any manner of speaker. The speakers would stand up in various parts of the park and create as much noise and as wide a circle of audience as possible. I remember being particularly interested in a man who was dressed in a cocktail dress with a flamboyant feather boa and admirers trailing behind. Anyway, blogs remind me of Bughouse Square.

What I do like about reading blogs is the hyper text. I find myself clicking here and there and reading more and more in a dizzying fashion about a wide variety of things. (By the way, I couldn't get the video to work on how to link in a blog, so I gave up trying to do that in tonight's blog.) I do think that the hypertext in blogs does make it different than reading black and white text. The reading becomes Trouwjurken less focused and linear, in a way, but also rather tantalizingly like peeling an onion and finding more layers and layers of things to read.

I'm not certain about the uses of blogs in learning, or the business of meaning making. The only thing I know for sure is that blogs have given anyone, anywhere, the possibility of an audience, for better or for worse.

I like sharing what I love with others. It didn't take me long as new teacher to know that you really must know a subject to teach it well. That's one reason why I signed up to teach igoogle and google calendar this summer. I know I'll have to know both those tools well, and I want to!

3. Create your own learning toolbox

This is the most important to me as I look around and see that the shift has happened. I think the course will introduce me to some tools I'll like and some that I won't. Either way, I'll have a few more tricks up my sleeve.

NEW YORK -- Vogue's hugely-anticipated September issue will feature Kate Moss on its cover and in a gorgeous fashion spread inside -- and not just in the wedding dress that John Galliano designed Cocktailjurken 2012 for her, the New York Post reported Monday, citing sources.

It's strike two for Jenny Packham on the Duchess of Cambridge's Asian tour! This morning, Kate visited a war memorial in Singapore wearing a bespoke duck-egg blue shirt-dress. It's a sign that, along with McQueen's Sarah Burton, Packham is fast becoming one of Kate's most favoured designers. She wore an oriental print kimono dress by the Brit designer for her first appearance on this tour and she's regularly seen at official functions and relaxed polo games wearing her designs here in the UK.

LONDON (Reuters) - Forget the diamond as big as the Ritz. This one's bigger than planet Earth. Orbiting a star that is visible to the naked eye, astronomers have discovered a planet twice the size of our own made largely out of diamond. The rocky planet, called '55 Cancri e', orbits a sun-like star in the constellation of Cancer and is moving so fast that a year there lasts a mere 18 hours. .

Tucked into Kensington Gardens, a public park in central London, Kensington Palace is a warm red-brick contrast to gray Buckingham Palace, Queen Elizabeth II's London home.

It was home to six British monarchs, including Victoria, who spent her childhood here, and now contains several royal "apartments'' - actually Georgian houses, one of which William and Kate will move into next year.

It also has dozens of rooms that are open to the public. The public side of the palace reopens Monday, in time for a busy tourist season that includes the queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations in June and Sexy Cocktailjurken the summer Olympics.

Upstairs is an exhibition devoted to Victoria, the only British monarch before the current queen to reach 60 years on the throne.

It includes the room where she was born and the room where in 1837 she was informed, at age 18, that her uncle William IV had died and she was queen.

Personal items range from her first pair of baby shoes to a pair of the royal stockings - along with Victoria's delighted description of how her husband, Prince Albert, helped her put them on.

Their marriage is traced from romantic start to tragic finish, with displays including Victoria's ivory silk wedding gown and the black dress she wore in mourning after Albert's death in 1861.

Further on are the grand state apartments originally inhabited by King William III and Queen Mary II, husband-and-wife monarchs who sat on the throne from 1689. It was they, Marschner said, who hired architect Christopher Wren to transform "a modest-ish 17th-century house into a baby palace.''

The rooms are grand, with Old Masters and gilded statues aplenty - but they also tell a moving human story.

With no children of their own, William and Mary pinned the succession hopes of their Stuart dynasty on Prince William, son of Mary's sister Anne.

The only child of Anne's 18 pregnancies to survive infancy, he was a lively but delicate boy who died after falling ill while dancing at his 11th birthday party.

His death sparked both family mourning and a constitutional crisis. You can tell by the pictures that only the bodice of the dresses are somewhat similar. As for someone saying she should/could sue the designer of Catherine's dress is completely wrong. There are more than enough differences that make them completely different albeit similar dresses. In order to copy but not infringe an item needs to be approximately 20% different.

And just by looking at the photo you can tell that the waistlines are different, the older one has a drop waist Catherine's is at the waist, then there's the bow, the length of the train, and it appears that Cocktailjurken 2012 the older dress was completely covered in lace which Catherine's is not. Uh, it DOES look like Kate's. It is not exact, but it has the same general Korte Trouwjurk design and anyone out there at first glance would make the connection. You are just nit picking.

The thing is, Kate decided to wear a very basic, run-of-the-mill, common simple dress. It has extravagant lace, a longer than average train, and is very well made, but it is still very very ordinary. There are many dresses out there that looked like her's before her's was made, and this style has remained a timeless option for years and years.

So, there are hundreds of women out there thinking Kate wore their dress or their grandmother or great grandmother's dress. And they are all right. The design is common.

There's only been six months of tireless speculation and hundreds of exhausted journalists who (unsuccessfully) tried to unravel the mystery of who would design the princess bride's wedding dress. The day has finally come: Kate Middleton is wearing Cocktailjurken 2012 a long-sleeved, ivory lace and satin gown, designed by Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen.

"Miss Middleton wished for her dress to combine Prom Jurken tradition and modernity with the artistic vision that characterises Alexander McQueen work," Clarence House officials released in a statement. "Miss Middleton worked closely with Sarah Burton in formulating the design of her dress."

The questions keep coming, but no one has the answers. Congratulations, Kate Middleton, for keeping your wedding dress the royal wedding's biggest mystery and talking point.

With just two days to go, the world still knows next to nothing about what Prince William's bride will wear to mark her transition from commoner to princess.

"They've done an amazing job at keeping it secret," said Darcy Miller, editorial director at Martha Stewart Weddings. "The secrecy of the designer is making it more of an obsession" for brides and millions of royal fans everywhere, she added.

Barring any leaks in Sexy Cocktailjurken the next 48 hours, the world will not get a good, long look at Middleton's dress until 11 am. local time on Friday, when she crosses the threshold at Westminster Abbey. Meanwhile, it's not hard to make some educated guesses.

It will be special enough for a princess, but it won't be too flashy for a "people's wedding" during austere economic times, or out of sync with Kate's usual pared-down, no-fuss style. It will be set off by her sapphire engagement ring (her "something blue", perhaps) and likely a tiara from the royal collection ("something borrowed").

And it will be created by a British designer, probably with British materials. The strongest contenders are Sarah Burton, creative director at fashion house Alexander McQueen, which has a reputation for precise tailoring and dramatic runway shows; Prom Jurken and Bruce Oldfield, an established couture designer specializing in traditional bridal and eveningwear, and a favorite of the late Princess Diana.

"He's as close to Parisian couture as you can get, whilst still supporting a British designer," British Vogue commented in its shortlist of potential dress designers.

Kate's mother, Carole, and sister Pippa have been snapped at his boutique, fueling rumors that he could be designing the gown, the bridesmaid's dress, or the mother-of-the-bride outfit. But Carole and Pippa Middleton have also appeared at Alice Temperley's boutique, and it's anyone's guess what deals, if any, were struck behind the shops' closed doors.

A fourth name that has emerged recently is the lesser-known Sophie Cranston, who worked with McQueen's studio and Temperley before setting up her small label Libelula. The press started speculating on Cranston after Middleton wore a black velvet dress coat she designed to a wedding earlier this year.

While an unlikely choice Cranston is not experienced in designing bridal gowns there is a good chance Middleton will pick a less established designer to show that she is a modern new royal who champions budding talent.

Many believe Middleton will wear more than one dress as she moves from one part of the day to the next a traditional, classic gown for the service in the vast Westminster Abbey, when 2 billion people across the world are expected to gaze upon her, and another, more comfortable dress for the private post-wedding reception at Buckingham Palace. "A lot of brides are doing the same today, getting a more comfortable reception dress you can dance in. It's what brides are doing across America, and I won't be surprised if Kate does that."

If that's true, Middleton can have more freedom choosing designs that reflect her personal style and preferences. She can wear a more slinky, sexier gown by her favorite label Issa in the evening, and Cranston, who has denied she is making the wedding dress, could also have been drafted in to design the evening outfit.

Designers say that bridal trends like the currently popular "mermaid" style, a sexy shape that fits around the hips then flares out at the knee likely wouldn't have influenced Middleton's choice because trends really don't matter when it comes to a royal wedding. But will Middleton's choice stand the test of time and elevate her to a style icon, like the high-necked, lace-sleeved gown did for Grace Kelly at her 1956 wedding to Prince Rainier of Monaco?

Amsale Aberra, an Ethiopian bridal designer based in New York, hopes that Middleton stays away from glamorous, high-fashion styles worn by Hollywood stars.

"People are not expecting something you'd see on a runway, or what the celebrities wear," she said. "It's not about the dress, it's about her. It's about a feeling. It's definitely important to keep the tradition, but I hope she make it hers."

Just wear what you feel comfortable in but do bear in mind you will get very hot! The best shoes to wear are ones that will give your foot support (like an aerobic style shoe). It is best not to wear a shoe that has too much grip as this can cause pressure on your knees.

People are advised to bring a towel and a bottle of water along with them as you will get very hot! There is a break in between each track allowing everyone to get a quick drink of water before the party continues.

The Duchess of Cambridge, known for her recycling style, has just appeared at the Order of the Thistle ceremony in Edinburgh and rather than rewearing an outfit we've seen before, she's looking resplendent in a brand new pale yellow number by Emilia Wickstead. We're excited.

Kate's topped off the ladylike look with a pair of black heels and the Whiteley hat with a curled Parisisal trim that we've seen twice before: first at the Epsom Derby last June, then at the wedding of Emily McCorquodale to James Hutt last month.

Our pals at Emilia Wickstead tell Grazia Daily that this is a bespoke dress specially made for Kate. It's not from a specific season, but the yellow-gold raffia fabric featured a lot in the Spring Summer 2012 collection. They also tell us that altogether a dress like this takes about 6 weeks to complete.

In true sticking-to-what-she-knows style, this is the third Emilia Wickstead creation we've seen the DoC wearing this year. The New Zealand-born, London-based designer was behind that Korte Trouwjurk rose pink number with a pleated skirt that Kate wore for her first ever Buckingham Palace garden party as well as a swanky Windsor Castle luncheon. And in March, she turned to Ms Wickstead for the St Patrick's Day parade when she wore a sumptuous green coat dress from the Autumn / Winter 2010 collection.

Kate's royal wedding dress goes on show

London (CNN) -- The intricate lace and embroidery of Catherine Middleton's wedding dress wowed millions as they watched her walk down the aisle with Prince William. Now, almost three months later, there's a chance for royal wedding fans to take a closer look.

The ivory and white satin gown and nine-foot train, designed by Sarah Burton for the Alexander McQueen fashion house, is on display at Buckingham Palace from Friday to October 3, as part of the palace's annual summer opening.

Visitors will be able to admire close-up Korte Cocktailjurken the handiwork of the Royal School of Needlework, which made the lace applique for the bodice and skirt by hand, using techniques dating back almost two centuries. The Korte Trouwjurk design incorporates the rose, thistle, shamrock and daffodil, to represent each nation in the United Kingdom.
